RICHMOND, Va. — Former U.S. Navy SEAL Scott Taylor defeated incumbent Rep. Randy Forbes in the Republican Primary for Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District. The district includes much of the defense-heavy Hampton Roads area, including Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval base in the world.
“Washington is broken and we need a fresh start,” Taylor told the Associated Press. Taylor ran as a political outsider who emphasized his service to his country.
During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Taylor was a SEAL sniper. Taylor also spent two years as a SEAL instructor teaching marksmanship and reconnaissance.
In addition to his service, Taylor has also worked as a real estate broker. Additionally, he is the founder and chairman of Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund, a 501(c) Political Action Committee formed in 2012 that accused the Obama Administration of security leaks and taking too much credit for the Killing of Osama bin Laden in 2011.
Taylor will face Democrat Shaun Brown in the November General Election.
