The Rover Oaks Pet Resort in Houston, Texas is doing its part to help our nation’s heroes. Earlier this month, the resort wrapped up it’s sixth annual Operation: War Dogs fundraiser to help the nonprofit organization Mission K9.

“We have supported a lot of different organizations over the years,” Rover Oaks owner Steve Smith said. “In 2010, a friend of mine told me about this nonprofit, and it caught my attention.”

The dog rescue organization, which is headquartered in Richmond, works to provide medical care, transportation and homes for retiring military and working dogs.

But Rover Oak’s fundraisers for the military dogs have been an massive success.

“We didn’t know it would be such a success,” Smith said. “The first year, we raised about $8,000. The next year, we decided to do it again. It just kept building. It’s gotten stronger and stronger.”

To this day Rover Oaks has raised over $90,000 for Mission K9.
